West of Normal is a waggish glimpse into the idiosyncratic inhabitants of West Marin County, California. It is an ongoing drawing project prompted by the Sheriff’s Calls published weekly in the Point Reyes Light.

The Calls

Monday, April 17

WOODACRE: At 10:51 p.m. a woman called and said, “my universe is about to start.”

Tuesday, January 20

NICASIO: At 2:38 p.m. a woman hunting mushrooms near the reservoir found a rope beside a crumpled Tyvek suit.

Thursday, March 19

BOLINAS: At 1:15 p.m. someone said a 70-year-old woman was hiding behind rocks, throwing rocks at surfers. Deputies placed her on a mental health hold.

West of Normal is moving off the screen and into print.

I’m raising funds to produce the first run of high-quality prints and cards—archival paper, small batches, printed locally.

If this work resonates with you and you’d like to help bring it into physical form, you can support the project here. Contributors will get early access and a small thank-you from me.

Thank you for being part of this strange and beautiful corner of the world.
